Verna Ellene Taylor Shehee -BYRON - Verna Ellene Taylor Shehee, 89, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, after an extended illness. Funeral Services will be held at 1P.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. Entombment will be in the Ascension Mausoleum at Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home. -Mrs. Shehee was born in the Ellaville area to the late Henry and Verlin Barfield Taylor. She met the love of her life, James H. Shehee; they married, and moved to Middle Georgia to raise their family. "Grandma" as she was affectionately known, dearly loved her family. She never complained and never asked for anything from anyone. She only wanted to show her love and devotion to all through her kindness and awesome spirit. Grandma loved being a mother and a grandmother, and was known to many as their "best friend". As secrets were told, her friends and family felt as if they were putting them in a safe deposit box, and Grandma has taken all of them with her to Heaven. Throughout her life, she loved to cook and enjoyed gardening...in a dress. For years, she only wore dresses. In fact, she wore her first pair of pants when she was 51 years old. Grandma spent many hours fishing and always did everything she could to make a warm and loving home for her family. She loved country music and would watch the music videos over and over. She even had her husband take her to Ernest Tubb's funeral in Nashville in 1984. She attended many concerts with her children and grandchildren and went to every concert at the Georgia National Fair for the first eight years. As her health declined, she chose to enjoy her music at home with her family. What a wonderful woman Mrs. Shehee was. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, James H. Shehee; her son, Allen Shehee; a brother, Wilbur Taylor; and her sister, Inez Pinegar. -The legacies she leaves behind are her son, Rodney Shehee (Teresa) of Fort Valley; her daughter-in-law, Stacey Deese of Perry; her brothers, Lester Taylor (Julia) of Phoenix City, AL, and Aubrey Taylor of Perry; her grandchildren, Tammy Knowland, Jimmy Shehee (Stacy), Jessica Shehee, Uriah Shehee, and Maranda Shehee; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
